End of Life Care – We Answer your Questions

Created with Sheffield’s Swahili speaking community, this video answers important questions raised by members of the community about death and how we can prepare for the end of our lives. These include questions around life limiting illnesses and choices about accessing care and support from the NHS and other services. Compassionate Sheffield teamed up with The United Women Affiliation and SBC Theatre to help grow confidence and knowledge on how we can support ourselves and each other through this important part of life.

Facilitation Guide 2.png

This tool has been created using learning from the Sheffield Life, Loss and Death Festival 2024. It aims to support anyone planning to deliver one or more (creative) in-person group sessions on the topic of death, dying or bereavement.
The target audience ranges from those who are brand new to facilitating events to those who have more experience. It hopes to offer tips and ideas to reflect on when designing your own sessions, rather than an exact guide to specific session outlines.

New Process: What Happens After Someone Dies?

In 2024, the process for what happens after someone dies, changed. Navigating the new Medical Examiner process can feel complicated, particularly when someone dies outside of the hospital. Compassionate Sheffield partnered with Foundry Primary Care Network and the Integrated Care Board to create this summary information for the public and care professionals. It describes the new process, detailing the 3 key steps for when someone dies outside of hospital.

Talking About Suicide – Awareness, Conversations and Support

This recorded session, delivered on May 13th 2025 as part of the Sheffield Life, Loss and Death Festival 2025, explores key aspects of suicide prevention and awareness. Presented by Joanna Rutter, the presentation offers an overview of key facts, challenges stigma and common myths, and discusses how supportive conversations can make a difference. It also touches on the unique experience of bereavement by suicide and signposts to local support in Sheffield and South Yorkshire and national support resources.

Please note: This session does not include training or provide crisis intervention training or support. The content can be emotive, we encourage viewers to take breaks, practice self-care, and allow time for reflection. This video has been made available for those who were unable to attend live and for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of this important subject.

Supporting Ourselves and Others Through Baby Loss - Online Event Recording

This is a recording from an event hosted by Compassionate Sheffield as part of the Sheffield Life, Loss and Death Festival 2025 on May 1st 2025. This online event offered a space to share different ways that people may be affected by the experience of baby loss. It included discussion about how we can support ourselves and others through this, how to recognise when someone may need some extra support, what that support might be and how to access it. The event is suitable for those who have experienced baby loss or who wish to learn more about supporting others through baby loss. It contains some sign posting information for further support in Sheffield and nationally. Facilitated by Dr Laura Francis, Principal Clinical Psychologist.

Organisations and Charities

In the workshop, Laura shared some really helpful signposting to different places available to  access support. We have listed them in the document below.
